MELAKA Nov 16 – The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) has removed at least five political party banners in areas under its jurisdiction so far for violating election campaign regulations.

MPHTJ president Datuk Shadan Othman said the council had to act as the banners hung in the ongoing Melaka state election campaign period were capable of triggering untoward incidences among the community.

“We will continue to monitor so that similar banners are not hung by irresponsible parties. We want to prevent untoward incidences in this election,” he said when contacted today.

He said there have been no compounds issued so far for the banner violation while adding that a billboard at a road junction in Taman Ara Batu Berendam was also brought down recently due to public complaints and for safety reasons. -BERNAMA
